We want to say thanks to Professor Gesualdo, Professor of Nephrology at the University of Bari, who gave us this short interview during the most acute phase of the pandemic.

Professor, can you tell us how you assisted your patients during such a difficult period to prevent feelings of loneliness and fear in facing this illness?
Prof. Gesualdo:

We have been talking about Telemedicine for a long time, but unfortunately there has been little concerted engagement with this type of care in Italy. Certainly the Covid-19 emergency has highlighted the real need for this service with certified and safe market solutions.

Our hospital has always focused on innovation and, in response to the demands of this situation, we decided to implement the Dedalus C4C Meeting software integrated with our internal systems.

There are numerous benefits, not least the ability to be close to my patients, perhaps even in a more active way than before. Some of them have given positive feedback because we can evaluate their condition without them having to travel to reach the hospital. The use of virtual methods has not increased distance, but has enabled empathetic interaction simply by not neglecting patients. This is not in relation to initial visits, but other appointments such as follow ups can be managed in this way.

C4C Meeting is simple, comprehensive, I don’t have to switch applications to activate it, I can start the Televisit directly from the medical records while displaying the patient’s data.

Patients also feel more involved in the care pathway: if, for example, blood tests are necessary, they send them to me by email, I register them in the EMR and this is how the dosage is calibrated.

Now we would like to extend this program to help treat vulnerable patients and those with rare diseases.
